To the north of Himmatnagar is Idar. The name of Idar as Idargadh is well known in Gujarat. Like Pavagadh in the East, Idargadh is a significant place in North. Surrounding it are the huge solid hard black rocks, and these, besides the fort, protect it from any harm. The fort is on the higher grounds than the town, of course. The Bhil rulers of this area had to surrender to the Rajput descendants of Bappa Raval, who made it their seat of power.

From the town-side there are carved steps to reach the fort. There is a large plateau on top. A place called 'Ruthi Rani nu Maliyur' is an ivory tower like structure. It was renovated by Kumarpal is found here. Rao Ranmalla Chowki is named after the poet who wrote Ranmallachhand to euologise the actions of bravery undertaken by Kumarpal, then Ranmalla's horse's cave, and some other places of interest are found here. Nearly 10 km away is the village of Vadali. It is said that Hiuen Tsang, the Chinese traveler, passed from this area before he went to visit Valabhi. We have also discovered stone inscriptions of 1208,1219, and 1273 AD from here. Almost 15 km away from Himmatnagar are the ancient temples of Roda, and looking at them we may conclude that once upon a time there must have existed a rich city. The ruins here date about a 1000 year old. At Himmatnagar a museum is set up to house the sculptures and photographs. The ruins of Vijaynagar a little ahead of Idar are also worth taking a closer look.

KHEDBRAHMA

Before you reach Idar while traveling from Ambaji, you would come across Khedbrahma. The local legends say that the originally the image in this temple, was at Ambaji, This is the rare temple of Four-headed Brahma, and probably that is why' is also called Brahmashiya Khedbrahma. Except for the Brahma temple at Pushkar, this is the only other temple of Lord Bi'ahma in the whole of India, However, due to the great significance given to the worship of Ambaji and intrinsically there being not much importance to worship of Lord Brahma in general, this place has not developed as it could have. However, great importance is also given to the temple of Ambaji situated here. The Arasur-Ambaji is also very near. This place is on the Idar-Ambaji route.
